Quick records & side-chain compression

July 13th, 2009

A couple of new recordings, after a long hiatus due to end-of-semester marking, various conferences, and miscellaneous odd jobs. Both of these were done really quickly – less than half an hour set-up time for choosing synths and audio effects, initalisation/testing/previewing, etc. They’re also quite ‘straightforward’ (ie. 4/4, no unusual timings or scalings) which, ironically, seems to be more challenging aesthetically.

Duration: 2:36
Recorded: 10 July 2008
Instruments:4 synths, percussion
Comments: This was an experiment with a higher BPM (around 200), but it’s not particularly audible – sounds more like 100 in this case. Lots of transposition in the first half. The progression from 1:06 to 2:04 is quite pleasing, particularly with regard to subtle percussive change.
