Duration: 5:36
Recorded: 19 April 2009
Instruments: Drums, 3 synths
Comments: Trying to be a bit more minimal – using more complex sounds but resisting adding too much melodic change. Recorded after listening to Slip by Autechre (off Amber). Similarities are scant, but include the 90s-sounding drums and use of flanging.

More analog synths – update

Recorded: 7 April 2009
Instruments: Drums, 3 synths
Comments: On listening through the previous track, Alex raised a good point – when using lead synths (with glide/portamento), it’s important for the ends of notes to be quantised. This was done by editing note lengths in Cubase. Some (manually programmed) drums have also been added.

More analog synths

Filename: lathfull_deviate_ds_Apr09
Duration: 3:48
Recorded: 7 April 2009
Instruments: Drums, 3 synths
Comments: More use of analog lead synths. The LFO on the main synth helps to add variety. It’s difficult to resist adding more tonal/melodic content than is necessary; this recording could probably have been much simpler.
